Writing Competition – Results

The results of the short story competition were announced at the Writers Workshop on 6th March. The winner was Emer Halpenny and runner-up was Deirdre Ann Ridge. We were delighted with the level of entries this year and plan to run another competition next year.

Muckross Archives

Through the past pupils’ contributions to the annual raffle, donations, fundraising events and membership fees the Union has been able to give support to many different groups and projects.

A donation towards the new all weather hockey pitch
The convent
The donation of the Veritas plaque at the entrance to the new school building
Presentation of a Roll of Honour to the new school – this contains the names from the original college register from 1884-1902

Monthly PPU Mass

Takes place at 11.15am in Muckross Park on the First Sunday of February, March, April, September, October*, November** and December.

Bring along your husband, children, boyfriend, anyone! Mass in the chapel is followed by refreshments. (*October – Annual Mass for the Combined Dominican Schools Unions and ** the Mass in November is offered for all deceased past pupils)

MARCH 2010

Writers Workshop

Saturday 6th March 2010 from 2pm – 5.30pm in the National Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire. Cost €20. Book with Valerie Cox at 087-685 8406 . Workshop followed by a discussion by a panel of authors and a Q&A session. Special Guests are author David Rice, director of the Killaloe Hedge-School of Writing and author and past pupil Catherine de Courcy whose recent book is a History of Dublin Zoo.

Union Day & AGM
Sunday 7th March 2010 in Muckross Park
Mass at 11.15am is followed by the AGM and refreshments.

Easter Egg Hunt
Sunday 28th March 2010 from 12 – 1pm in Muckross Park. Please book by email to grainne@springael.info or call Grainne Springael at 087-926 4003.

ANNUAL DINNER – Friday 23rd April 2010

In the Stillorgan Park Hotel at 7.30pm If you have an anniversary year in 2010 then why not book a table and arrange your class Reunion at the dinner. The PPU have some class lists if you need them – email for information. Advance booking essential – email us for a Booking Form.

2^nd Prize: 1 year’s drama class for 1 child from Emer Halpenny School

Draw will take place on Friday 23^rd April 2010 at the Annual Dinner. Tickets €5 each or Book of 5 for €20.

Combined Dominican Unions’ Golf Society – Annual Outing
In Naas Golf Club on 12th July 2010. Contact Mary Ryan 087-678 9078 for bookings.
The last time Muckross won this competition was 1993 so let’s get a good team out there for 2010!

SEPTEMBER 2010

Muckross Golf Society – Annual Outing
Thursday 9th September 2010 in Edmondstown Golf Club, Rathfarnham. Tee time from approx 1.30pm – 3.30pm. For bookings contact Lady Captain Darina Marshall 01 4944818 or email marshallfam@eircom.net.

If you don’t play golf come and join your classmates for the dinner.

OCTOBER 2010

Combined Dominican Unions’ Mass
The annual Mass for the past pupils of all Dominican schools in Ireland takes place in the chapel in Muckross Park, Marlborough Road, Donnybrook, Dublin 4 on Sunday 3rd October 2010 at 11.15am. Mass in the chapel is followed by refreshments. If you know anyone who attended Ballyfermot, Cabra, Dun Laoghaire, Eccles St/Griffith Ave, Falls Road, Fortwilliam, Muckross, Portstewart, Santa Sabina, Sion Hill, Taylors Hill or Wicklow or any Dominican school please let them know and bring them along.

NOVEMBER 2010

The PPU monthly Mass on Sunday 7th November will be offered for all deceased past pupils.

DECEMBER 2010

Santa Party

Sunday 5th December 2010 in Muckross Park from 12 noon – 1pm.

Members’ children and grandchildren are invited to meet Santa and enter the colouring competition. Prior booking essential so that Santa will have enough presents for all ! Email muckrossppu@ireland.com for more information. Places are limited so book early!

The 2010 Annual Dinner was a great night with 152 attending. So make a date now for the 2011 Annual Dinner which will take place on Friday 15th April 2011 .Are you 10, 20, 30, 40 years left Muckross? Then why not arrange your Anniversary Reunion at the dinner. The PPU have some class lists – email for info.

The draw for the 2010 raffle took place at the Annual Dinner in April. We would like to thank all those who supported it, particularily the past pupils who sponsored the prizes. Over €2,000 was raised for our charitable endeavours. For full details of prizes go to the EVENTS page.
